A Narayanganj court has granted a two-day remand for three individuals arrested in connection with the death of BUET student Muhtasim Masud (22), who was killed in a high-speed collision involving a private car in Rupganj’s 300 Feet Road area.

The order was issued on Sunday, December 22, by Senior Judicial Magistrate Noor Mohsin after police presented the suspects in court seeking a five-day remand. The defense counsel had submitted bail petitions for the accused, but the court rejected them and approved a two-day remand for questioning.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, December 19, in the Purbachal area. According to police reports, Muhtasim Masud and his friends Mehedi Hasan Khan and Amit Saha were struck by a speeding private car while being stopped for questioning at a checkpoint. Masud died at the scene.

Police arrested three individuals—Mubin Al Mamun (20), Mirazul Karim (22), and Asif Chowdhury (19)—in connection with the incident and seized the vehicle involved. Mubin Al Mamun, the son of retired Brigadier General Abdullah Al Mamun, was driving the car. Police also revealed that the car’s registration is under the name of the former military officer.

During the search of the vehicle, police discovered an empty bottle of foreign liquor and a can of beer. Subsequent drug tests conducted on the accused returned positive results.

On Friday, December 20, Muhtasim’s father, Masud Mia, filed a case against the accused under the Road Transport Act at Rupganj Police Station. Following the hearing, the court denied the suspects’ bail applications and approved their remand for further investigation.
